What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction that also promotes healing.
It’s done through touch. It is the universal energy that flows through all living things and supports
the body’s natural healing abilities. We each have the innate ability to connect with our own
healing energy and to use it to cultivate peace, wholeness and well-being.
Having a Reiki treatment is simple and effective. You lie down on a massage table fully clothed.
The practitioner places her hands lightly on or near your body in a series of hand positions.
These include around the head and shoulder, arms, knees and feet. Each position is held for
approximately three minutes. A session typically lasts 60 minutes from start to finish. If you
can’t lie down on a table, Reiki can be done in a sitting position. Reiki can also be done long-
distance without your being present in person.
Reiki is deeply relaxing and you may feel heat or coolness or a tingling sensation from the
practitioner’s hands. Some clients report seeing colors or flashes of color. Warm, soothing
energy flows from the practitioner’s hands into the client promoting relaxation and releasing
tension.
Reiki Benefits
Reiki treats the whole person -- the physical body, emotions, mind and spirit -- creating many
beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace and well-being. After a Reiki session
some people report feeling:
It’s important to come to your session without expecting certain sensations. Reiki will
automatically flow to the parts of your body and mind that need balancing and healing. You
don’t need to force the flow or do anything except bask in the soothing benefits of the
treatment.
